500 Startups Almost Kicked out of Thrift Shop!

Finally, the moment you have been waiting for: the live version of the video Batch #6 made for 500 Startups at Mountain View! We made a parody of Macklemore’s catchy but annoying “Thrift Shop” song about the hustle of startups. It was a lot of fun making it, and everyone here at 500 in batch 6 is awesome and a great pleasure to work with! Though we almost got kicked out of a Thrift Shop in Palo Alto because we irritated the not-so-cheerful store manager with our excitement and laughter (even though we spent more than $200 there!), our mission was success: We made an awesome video with KILLER SWAG! I take credit for finding the AWESOME swag of Adam at Binpress (see the guy with the furry animal hat with arms and yellow jacket)! Watch for me in my ORANGE galabeya getting out of an orange corvette!
My Boss & I!

In case you didn’t know:
500 startups is one of the best accelerators in Silicon Valley, but also really in the WORLD.
For those of you who aren’t familiar, an accelerator provides startups with capital seed.
Great accelerators like 500 nurture small business teams (Startups) by providing valuable assets like training from powerful mentors, access to workshops, and an incredible network of VCs, angel investors and other support.
The startups are given a specific amount of seed, and given a timeframe to raise more funds. Our timeframe at 500 for Batch #6 is the end of July, which is Demo Day.
On Demo Day we pitch our companies to investors. Our Demo Day will be in San Francisco, Silicon Valley and NYC.
I’m now working with Tamatem, an up and coming company designing mobile game Apps for the Arabic market.
Most people don’t know this, but:
- 60 million smart phone users are in the Middle East.
- The region has one of the world’s fastest adoption rates for mobile apps.
- Yet, less than 1% of all apps are available in Arabic.
Arabic users are hungry to devour mobile games, making it an untapped billion dollar industry!
Tamatem is building the foundation to lead this industry, ready to feed the unaddressed Arabic market. We are the first regional game company to adapt popular mobile games, localizing them to be culturally relevant for the Middle East. With 8 years of firsthand experience with the gaming industry in the Middle East, we understand the Arabic user. We customize each product to the Arabic speaker’s needs, focusing on apps with trivia, music, pop culture, and political games. Our team is based both here in Silicon Valley and in Jordan.
Check us out on Angel List! Feel free to reach out and connect with me for more questions. We are currently finishing the development of 5 great games and will be launching some of them soon!
